Types of skin cancer - prevention is better than aftercare
Malignant neoplasms or changes to the skin are very common types of cancer. Skin cancer screening should help to ensure that these are detected in good time.
A distinction is made between the following types of skin cancer:
- Black skin cancer (malignant melanoma): In this form of cancer, the pigment cells that produce the skin pigment melanin degenerate. As a result, very aggressive cancer cells develop. These melanomas can grow rapidly. They also form cancerous growths in other parts of the body (called metastases); in lymph nodes and internal organs.
- White skin cancer (a distinction is made between basal cell carcinoma and spinalioma): Both types occur mainly in older people. They are mainly triggered by UV light, which is why they often form on the face. If left untreated, these cancerous tumors can also destroy the surrounding tissue.
Skin cancer is difficult to detect for the layperson. As part of a skin cancer screening, skin changes can be detected and removed.
Nevertheless, you should regularly examine your skin yourself.
