Occurrence, cause and forms of rosacea
Rosacea (also known as couperose or acne rosacea) usually begins from the age of 30 and is a chronic inflammatory skin disease in the central facial area. Women are more frequently affected than men. It leads to hyperreactivity of the blood vessels in the face with vasodilation and vascular damage. Depending on the severity, there is also a chronic inflammatory reaction with papules and pustules, regional lymphoedema and tissue hyperplasia.
Provoking factors are sun exposure, alcohol, spicy food, heat or cold.
Stages of rosacea:
- Preliminary stage: transient or permanent redness (erythema)
- Stage 1: Redness (erythema) with veins (teliangiectasia)
- Stage 2: Papules, pustules and swelling
- Stage 3: Sebaceous gland hyperplasia, vasodilation, proliferation of connective tissue in the nose area
Holistic rosacea therapy
The treatment of rosacea should be adapted to the stage of the disease and the severity of the symptoms. It requires a great deal of sensitivity.
Sufficient UV protection (SPF 50+ and higher) should be ensured. Mild cleansing without alcohol-containing substances should be used.
Drug therapy depends on the stage. Topical treatment is with metronidazole or other antibiotics and azelaic acid. Oral antibiotics or isoretinoin are used as medication.
We offer the following additional procedures as part of holistic rosacea therapy:
- Medical facial treatments with gentle, low-irritant cleansing and lymphatic drainage massage and Soebye connective tissue massage
- Medical peeling, e.g. enzyme or fruit acid peeling
- JetPeel
- Laser treatments for the treatment of disruptive and dilated vessels (teliangiectasia)
