Occurrence, cause and forms of fungal diseases
Fungal infections are among the most common infections in humans. They affect nails, skin and hair. Dermatophytes are very often the cause. If these have penetrated one or more nails, this is referred to as a nail fungal infection (= onychomycosis).
The infection often occurs from person to person. Most people become infected in public facilities such as swimming pools, fitness studios, saunas, showers and in the changing rooms of sports facilities. Nail fungus (onychomycosis) is often found in combination with athlete's foot. Pressure and increased sweating favor infection with fungi. The incidence of nail fungus increases with age. Due to the wide distribution of fungal spores, the frequency also increases with age. In our practice, over a third of people over 60 are affected by nail fungus.
Holistic nail fungus therapy
Unfortunately, the treatment of nail fungus is lengthy and must be carried out consistently. Applying tinctures, creams or varnishes alone is often not enough. Complex podological treatment is effective and promising.
We have put together an intensive treatment concept in our practice. This combines the following treatment components:
- medical foot care | complex podiatric treatment
- Topical treatment with tinctures and nail polish
- Laser treatment [read more here]
- Drug therapy (e.g. Terbinafine)
